Refractory Materials Containing Forsterite and Forsterite-based Refractory Materials
Publication time:2025-06-03     Reading times:

The forsterite material developed by the group contains, in wt%: forsterite 35–97, periclase 1–55, glass phase 2–10. The prismatic forsterite crystals in this material have a size of at least 100 μm. The preferred particle size distribution of this material is as follows: 20–60% for 3–1 mm, 20–45% for 1–0 mm, and 20–35% for less than 0.063 mm. Refractory materials with good slag resistance are prepared using this forsterite material.

The refractory material contains 70–95% of the above-mentioned fused forsterite and 5–30% carbon. The addition of periclase and chromium oxide to the refractory material has also been studied, with the following ratios, in wt%: 10–60% of the above-mentioned fused forsterite material, 10–85% periclase material, and 5–30% carbon.

Another formulation contains, in wt%: 10–60% of the above-mentioned fused forsterite material, 25–89% periclase material, and 1–15% chromium. It has been shown that the presence of large prismatic forsterite crystals enhances the slag resistance of the refractory material, while the glass phase improves the sintering and density of the refractory material.
